What do you need to create and publish a web site? At a basic level, to get started you simply need a computer (PC or Mac) with a web browser and an Internet connection. Your first step is to create a Sportingdomains user account to manage your products and services. You then select an available "domain name" for your site, and choose from a variety of ways to create the site content (using local authoring software or an online "site builder" service like Website Tonight .) Finally, you will need to select a method to "host" the site on the Internet and make it available to others. (Unless you are using our Website Tonight which comes with a built-in hosting account.) We are currently developing a "step-by-step" guide for beginners that will cover the full range of selecting an appropriate computer, choosing the right content creation software for your skill level, and making the purchasing decisions related to both hosting your content and bringing users to your web site. Hint: unless you are an advanced user, you should consider buying or subscribing to the simplest (and often the least expensive) software and services first - you can always upgrade later, after your skills have improved!

Note: Recent Price Increases On Certain Domain TLDs: On April 5, 2007, ICANN approved a price increase for the .COM, .NET, .ORG, .INFO and .BIZ registries. We strongly disapproved of this change and did our best to oppose the increase. Our concerns, however, were dismissed. The new price structure affects both new domain names and renewals, and was effective starting on October 16, 2007.
SportingDomains.com is based near the Menard County town of Petersburg in Central Illinois, while our hosting servers and support services are based in Arizona. Our customer base includes sportsmen and sportswomen working in a wide variety of traditional businesses.
